mobaXterm Professional vs Free: Is the Upgrade Worth It?

The Home Edition is not a demo or a trial with features locked behind a paywall. It's a genuinely complete tool. You get SSH, RDP, VNC, Telnet, SFTP, XDMCP, FTP, and serial — all in one window. The built-in X11 server starts automatically with every SSH session that has forwarding enabled, so you can run graphical Linux applications on your Windows desktop without installing anything extra.
The integrated SFTP panel is one of my favourite things about it. The moment you connect to a server over SSH, a file browser appears in the left sidebar showing the remote filesystem. Drag a file from Windows Explorer into that panel and it uploads. Click a remote file and it downloads. No separate WinSCP window. No re-entering credentials. It just works.
Add to that tabbed sessions, an SSH agent, tunnels, jump hosts, macro recording, the MobApt package manager for installing Unix tools locally, and full keyboard customisation — and you have a terminal that replaces four or five separate applications. All free.
The only real restriction in the free edition: you can save up to 10 sessions in the session tree. You can open as many ad-hoc connections as you like — you just can't save an eleventh. For personal use, that's almost never a problem.

- Session folder sharing — export your session tree and send it to a colleague; they import it and immediately have all your server definitions
- Custom branding — replace the splash screen with your organisation's logo (useful for MSPs and IT teams who build standardised toolkits)
- Multi-monitor full-screen RDP — spans across displays properly instead of fitting into a single screen

How to Get the Professional Edition
The download is on the downloads page. The whole thing takes about five minutes:

- Complete the licence purchase. You'll get your key by email, usually within a few minutes.
- Install mobaXterm, then go to Help → Register and paste in your key. That's it — session limit gone, all Professional features unlocked.

Can I try Professional before paying?

Is it a subscription or do I pay once?
One-time purchase. You buy a licence, you own that version permanently. It won't expire, it won't lock you out, it won't start asking for a renewal to keep working. There are optional maintenance renewals if you want to keep getting major version upgrades after the first year, but that's genuinely optional — the version you bought stays fully functional without it.
Can I use one licence on multiple computers?

What if my licence lapses — do I lose my sessions?
No. If your licence expires or you drop back to the free tier for any reason, mobaXterm still opens and all your sessions are still there.
